A decisão de começar em Boston foi, essencialmente, económica, era o sítio com um voo só de ida mais barato nos Estados Unidos, e para além disso é também uma cidade interessante, bem menos intimidante que Nova Iorque para começar a pedalar.

Semanas antes de virmos houve um atentado com uma bomba, junto à linha da meta da Maratona de Boston. De alguma forma, ao circular pela cidade fomos parar à Boylston Street, uma rua particularmente animada, cheia de gente a passear e a aproveitar o dia de Sábado. Foi precisamente nesta rua que rebentou a bomba, e à maneira americana foi feito um memorial em homenagem às vítimas. As mensagens deixadas por milhares de pessoas são de esperança e de paz.

As pessoas com quem falámos sobre este assunto disseram-nos que passaram alguns dias inquietantes até os autores do atentado terem sido apanhados, mas que lentamente estão a voltar aos seus hábitos regulares.

The decision to star in Boston was essentially an economic one, it was the cheapest one way flight we could get to the USA. Besides that it seemed like an interesting city and a lot less intimidating that New York City to start cycling. 

Weeks before we came there was a bomb attack by the finishing line of the Boston Marathon. We ended up passing by Boylston Street, and to had lots of people just strolling around enjoying their Saturday. It was exactly on this street that the bombings happened, and in an american way a memorial was made to pay tribute to all the victims. There were messages of peace and hope left by thousands of people.

The people to whom we’ve spoken about this told us that the days after the bombing until they catch the authors were disturbing, but slowly they are returning to their regular lives.
