A área que atravessámos entre Palenque e Chetumal tem as chamadas ruínas de Rio Bec, dezenas de sítios que podem ser visitados e provavelmente dezenas mais, ainda por descobrir. Se a verdade é que a junto à estrada os terrenos são essencialmente de agricultura e para pasto de gado, saindo um pouco desse raio está selva e mais selva, sítios por desbravar, mas nesses não nos arriscámos. De todos os que havia por visitar elegemos três, que nos encantaram de diferentes formas. O primeiro Calakmul, está no meio da selva. Para lá chegar é preciso andar 63 Km, que fizemos à boleia, e a melhor parte é mesmo subir às pirâmides mais altas e ver a selva toda em redor, e procurar animais selvagens, dos quais só chegámos a ver uns pavões e formigas.

Este sítio é gémeo de Tikal, no outro lado da fronteira já em terras de Guatemaltecas, e que representa o esplendor do mundo Maia (a visitar em breve!). Com um pouco de esforço, da pirâmide mais alta é possível avistar uma pontinha da pirâmide mais alta de Tikal.

The area we crossed between Palenque and Chetumal has the Rio Bec ruins with dozens of sites that can be visited and probably dozens more to discover. If the truth is that the land along the road is mainly for agriculture and livestock, leaving a little of that radius is jungle and more jungle with lots of unexplored sites, but to these we do not risk. Of all those we chose to visit three who charmed us in different ways. The first was Calakmul, located in the middle of the jungle. To get there you need to walk 63 km, we took a ride, and the best part is to climb to the tallest pyramids and see the jungle all around, and look for wildlife, of which we got to see only a few peacocks and some ants and birds.

This site is twin to Tikal, across the border lands already in Guatemala, which is the splendor of the Mayan world (we will be visiting soon!). With a little effort, from the tallest pyramid is possible to see a tinge of the highest pyramid of Tikal.
